How We Got Here

Back in 2021, I found myself working in Production Factory Maintenance. I was impressed with how many simple machines working together could produce the steel beams that built huge projects. However I quickly noticed how bad it got when just one simple component malfunctioned. These machines were, on average, 20+ years old, and as a result, parts were either extremely high in price, or extremely high in lead times. These machines were building the world, and yet the world couldn’t build parts. So I took a gamble..

I purchased an old Atlas Clausing Lathe that seemed to be more rust than steel. Never the less I hauled it to the old maintenance shop in that factory and cleaned it up the best I could. It sat there for the better part of a month before something went down in one of our cranes that needed replacing. I contacted the manufacturer for estimates on lead times and pricing for the small 6” threaded rod and the 2 sliders that acted as limit stops… $3000…6 weeks… this crane was what fed the factory. I thought there has to be something I could buy but that’s when I found out that the crane company, made this part needlessly proprietary. 9mm thread diameter, and imperial threads. No cross compatibility.

So I used that old lathe for the first time and was able to reproduce the part quite easily for $20. That’s when I knew, this is the answer to the American supply chain issue that has been plaguing us since late 2019. And so Bogausch Machine and Fabrication was born. My wife and I sold our house, moved to Robinson Tx, and used what was left over to build the machine shop. Since then, machining and fabrication have become my passion, and we have built a customer base with some of the largest manufacturers and repair companies in the Heart of Texas.

Lets add you to that list.
